Biography

My name is Courtney Swanson and I have taught third grade for four years. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Washington University. I got my first job as a third grade teacher in a great school and district and have been there ever since. It has been both challenging and rewarding. I am grateful to work in a profession where I am learning each day from my students, my colleagues, and my own reflection of my teaching experiences.

A great start to my teaching career has reinforced my calling to teach others. It is always very rewarding to watch third graders growth towards independence while still carrying an excitement for learning. I am fortunate to work in a supportive environment where collaboration is the norm. Within our professional learning communities, teachers work together to share data, brainstorm learning strategies and celebrate successes to improve student learning. Through my teaching, my goal is to provide a learning environment that fosters respect for individual differences and supports the needs of all students. My goal is to continue to grow and reflect as an educator in order to improve student learning.

I am a first time mom of my 8 month old baby girl, Julia! She is such a blessing. In my spare time, I love to be with family and friends. Time with them is always time well spent. I enjoy reading and time spent outdoors. I am looking forward to earning my Master’s degree but still have 3 other courses to complete by this summer 2014. I can do it and plan to finish strong! 🙂
